Connective tissue consists of widely scattered cells and the matrix, which is the substance in which the cells are embedded. The main function of connective tissues connect, support, or surround other tissues.
EPITHELIAL TISSUE
Epithelial tissue consists of one or more layers of tightly packed cells. Its main functions include protection, secretion, absorption, excretion, and sensory reception.
NERVOUS TISSUE
Nervous tissue consists of neurons and its main function is to transmit messages to all parts of the body, including the circulatory system. Nervous tissue is essential in order for all body systems to function properly.
MUSCLE TISSUE
Muscle tissue consists of muscle cells that allow for movement and mechanical work. Cardiac muscle tissue is found along the inside walls of the heart and allows for the contraction of the atria and ventricles, and is what causes the rhythmic beating of the heart.
